Oakleigh_attempeted_abduction_FACEPolice are appealing for public information following an attempted abduction in Oakleigh on Monday 25 August.

Investigators have been told a 19-year-old woman was walking west along Atherton Road near the intersection of Station Street around 10.40am when she saw a man leaning against the bonnet of a car.

She noticed the car was running and the passenger door was slightly ajar.

As she walked past, the man jumped out and grabbed her by the arm, pulling her towards the car.

The young woman screamed and her attacker kissed her, in an apparent attempt to smother her cries.

The teenager managed to get away by kicking the man, running towards a nearby real estate agency where she raised the alarm.

Detectives from the Monash Crime Investigation Unit are investigating the incident and have released a FACE image of a man they wish to speak to in relation to the incident.

He is described as being in his 50s, of Southern European appearance, approximately 170cm tall and of medium build. He was wearing a tan coloured polo shirt and blue jeans at the time of the incident.

Anyone with any information should contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential crime report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
