Cheltenham_sexual_assault_FACE_fitPolice are investigating after a teenage girl was sexually assaulted during a home invasion in Cheltenham yesterday.

Investigators have been told the 16-year-old was asleep in the rear bungalow of her family home in Devon Street when she awoke to find an unknown man sitting on the edge of her bed about 2.30am.

The man spoke to the girl and threatened to produce a knife before sexually assaulting her.

He remained in the bungalow for about an hour before leaving.

The terrified teenager then ran into the house and raised the alarm.

Detectives from the Sexual Crimes Squad are investigating the incident and are appealing for information to help identify the man involved.

Investigators have been able to establish that a suspicious man was seen in the vicinity of Devon St three hours prior to the attack and a FACE image of the man they would like to speak to has been released.

He is described as being aged between 18-20 with a deep voice, slim build and clean shaven face.

He was wearing a grey hooded jumper with the hood over his head.

Anyone with any information, or who might have witnessed any suspicious activity in the vicinity of Devon St, is urged to contact Crime Stoppers immediately on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential crime report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
