A MAN in a stolen Toyota Camry threw heavy objects at a police highway patrol car during a wild chase in the Frankston and Carrum Downs areas, midnight, Friday 2 September.
Police were forced to abort the chase near McCormack’s Rd when the car, with four or five passengers inside, began to drive erratically.
Several hours later an off-duty officer driving home from the station along Frankston-Dandenong Rd in a private car was targeted by the same offenders.
As he pulled alongside the Camry the driver, aged in his late teens or early 20s, threw a heavy object at his car, forcing him to slow down and take evasive action.
The Camry driver forced his way in behind the detective and rammed his car twice – the second time near the Hall Rd BP service station – as he did a U-turn to drive back to the police station. The offenders disappeared into a factory area.
The Camry was found next morning in Lobator St, Frankston. A witness said she saw a man run towards Excelsior Drive wearing a windcheater.
The car had been stolen from the driveway of a house in Fifth St, Parkdale, 9pm, Thursday 1 September. The owner had left it in the driveway with the motor running and the keys in the ignition while he unloaded groceries.
Detective Senior Constable Chris Nieuwesteeg, of Frankston CIU, described the offenders as male, Caucasian, late teens-early 20s, with short hair, and wearing windcheaters.
