POLICE chasing a car allegedly being driven erratically in Chelsea found its bumper bar – with number plate attached – after it was involved in a collision, 5pm, Saturday 3 December. They were then able to track down the owner of the car and identify the likely driver.

Chelsea police allege they saw the car leaving the Chelsea Heights hotel car park on the wrong side of the exit lane before turning onto Wells Rd.

They watched it weaving in and out of traffic and passing cars on the gravel verge before activating the police car’s lights and siren and initiating the chase.

Police lost the car after it turned into Thames Promenade, but did see vehicle debris on the on-ramp to the Frankston freeway.

Retracing their route they came across a Mitsubishi Lancer with damaged rear panels – with the offending car’s bumper bar and licence plate nearby.

Inquiries showed the registration details matched the car’s description and owner’s name and address.

A Carrum Downs woman, 19, is expected to be charged with dangerous driving and other traffic matters.
