Detectives in Frankston have arrested and charged a 47-year-old Frankston woman following a series of alleged frauds involving the transfer of university tuition fees.

Police commenced an investigation following reports that a number of students had large amounts of money stolen after paying an education consultancy agency to cover their university tuition fees.

It is estimated that approximately $95,000 had been stolen from at least six victims since 2016.

The Frankston woman has been charged with obtaining property by deception and is due to appear at Frankston Magistrates Court on 23 March 2018.

Police want to remind students who may be using a third party provider to first check the company is legitimate before handing over money.

Anyone with any information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential crime report to www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
