RESURFACING works are underway on South Road between Nepean Highway and Warrigal Road.
Crews are currently working to build a third right turn lane from South Road to the Nepean Highway. Night works to resurface the road will take place from 9 December to 12 December.
Motorists have contended with intermittent road closures from 26 November to accommodate works. Major Roads Project Victoria program director Brendan Pauwels said “we’ll do all we can to limit disruption on the road network, but there will be some delays while we work. We thank everyone for their patience and suggest that if you can, please avoid the area.”
“Providing an extra right-turn lane from South Road will greatly improve access to the Nepean Highway and improve traffic flow at this heavily congested intersection,” he said.
Bentleigh MP Nick Staikos said “we are delivering on our election commitment to upgrade South Road to slash travel times and improve safety.”
“Upgrading these five key intersections will make a big difference for the tens of thousands of people that travel along South Road every day,” he said.
There are four more intersections set to be upgraded as part of the South Road Upgrade project. All works are expected to be complete by early 2023.
