A TRIBUTE to a lifelong environmentalist will be installed at a site overlooking the foreshore.
Kathleen Hassell was a veteran of the Frankston Beach Association. She died in late 2020, and now a permanent tribute is in the works.
The artist of the Sentinel sculpture at Esplanade Reserve has given permission for a plaque to be installed on the artwork commemorating Ms Hassell. Frankston Council has approved the proposal and says that the cost of the plaque can be accommodated within its budget.
Kathleen Hassell worked with the FBA for more than four decades, helping preserve Frankston Beach and Oliver’s Hill. She was awarded an Order of Australia Medal for her work in 2017.
Other achievements from Ms Hassell’s life include the Outstanding Individual Achievement Award at the Victorian Coastal Awards for Excellence in 2013, the Dame Phyllis Frost Award at the Keep Australia Beautiful Awards in 2011, Frankston City’s Citizen of the Year in 2000, and an Frankston City Environmental Pioneers Award in 2000.
