ARTWORKS exploring Colombian culture and history are on display at the Frankston Arts Centre.
The paintings are the work of artist Joshua Searle. The self-taught artist has Colombian ancestry on his mother’s side, something he has expressed through his art.
Mr Searle says that “my South American ancestry enables me to tap into knowledge that is strong and old – it is a beacon of strength.”
Creating works which reflects real life events and political issues is important, Mr Searle says. “Artists cannot ignore what is happening around them, they have a duty as an artist to speak to what is happening,” he said.
The exhibition features work made using acrylic, oil stick, oil pastel and pencil. It is on display until 23 April at the Frankston Arts Centre as part of Ventana Fiesta.
Ventana Fiesta events, including Lucha Libre wrestling, will be held as part of the Waterfront Festival at Frankston foreshore this weekend.
