A MENTAL health advocate was named Kingston’s young citizen of the year at an event last week.
Alice Ho took out the award for her work in the mental health space. She works with local youth committees and leadership groups, and advocates for the needs of marginalised young people.
The young citizen of the year award is for a local person aged between 12 and 25. The other nominees were Amberley Powell, Sam Hubeek, Isabelle Lette, and Ronan Askew.
The award ceremony took place as part of Kingston Council’s Youth Fest month. In addition to the awards night a “Friday Feels Jam Session” took place on 16 September and a “Glitter and Glow” dance party will take place on 29 September.
Kingston mayor Steve Staikos said that the events will “provide a great opportunity for the youth of Kingston to come together and celebrate.”
“We are so proud of the collective spirit, passion, resilience and achievements of our young people, and whether it be through events like these, or our support services, we are committed to doing everything we can help build connections and assist our teenagers and young adults to chase their goals and dreams,” he said.
