A VETERAN musician has been named the 2023 Kingston citizen of the year.

Mordialloc Jazz Orchestra musical director Peter Foley was awarded the honour at an event last week. He has been part of the orchestra for more than three decades.

The orchestra brings together musicians from across the state each week. It plays at events such as Jazz-a-oke, Carols by Kingston, and the Big Band Sunsets.

The annual citizen of the year awards were held last Thursday, 18 May.  STEM  Incubators and the Cheltenham Community Centre both shared the community group of the year award on the day.

Kingston mayor Hadi Saab said “Peter, the STEM Incubators and the Cheltenham Community Centre all make remarkable  contributions across a wide range of areas in Kingston are great examples for us all to strive  towards.”

“We have some amazing citizens, community organisations and volunteers in Kingston and  these awards and event are a great way to thank them for their efforts and acknowledge the  outstanding impact they all make,” he said. “The winners were selected from a fantastic group of nominees, all of  whom had helped make Kingston such a strong and connected community.”

The Cheltenham Community Centre has been operating for 37 years. It offers programs and services such as childcare, school holiday activities, life skills classes, English language classes, and more.
