RECIPIENTS of this year’s Kingston Council annual grants program have been chosen.
Council has boasted that more than $1.6 million will be distributed to local community groups and charities this year. Among the 115 recipients are the Mordialloc Men’s Shed Inc, Kingston Toy Library, Mentone Community Garden Club, and Peninsula Dragonfly’s Dragon Boat Club.
This year’s arts grants recipients have also been selected. Among the projects funded is a multi-media performance by artist Judith Dodsworth, a mosaic project by Yarrabah and Kilbreda schools with artist Kimberly Taylor, a sculpture exhibition and workshop by artist Heather McConnell, a public workshop for new musical performances led by Alex Moffet, a symphony in a day performance from Nicole Marschall, and a public mural in Main Street Mordialloc by Deb McNaughton.
Kingston mayor Hadi Saab said “Kingston has so many amazing community groups and clubs that help make this area such a great place to live, work and play. Council is very proud to partner with them to support the positive impact they have in our community.”
“We continue to live in challenging times and these organisations provide invaluable support networks, social engagement opportunities and a real sense of belonging for so many across our community. If you know a great local community group, encourage them to apply early next year for this annual funding program,” he said.
“In addition to running a host of arts programs, performances, and activities through Kingston Arts venues, we also want to support local artists to get new projects off the ground. This year’s arts grants support a wide range of projects from a podcast and public art displays right through to art exhibitions, theatre performances and a children’s book.”
