THE new $14.5 million Mentone Life Saving Club facility has opened.

An event to officially mark the end of construction works was held last week. Representatives from Mentone LSC, Kingston Council, Life Saving Victoria, and the state government attended.

The new clubhouse features upgraded training spaces, a publicly accessible rooftop viewing deck, and public toilets and change facilities. It will serve more than 1000 members of the lifesaving club.

Mordialloc MP Tim Richardson said the new facility would benefit club members and beachgoers. “I’m proud that the Mentone Life Saving Club now has the dedicated facility it needs and deserves to continue saving lives and keeping the community safe,” he said.

“The impressive new clubhouse and upgraded foreshore precinct are not only transformative for Mentone Life Saving Club, but the local area too.”

Kingston Council ratepayers covered the majority of the cost. The state government put in $2.4 million, and $500,000 came from a federal government grant.

In 2022/2023, 145 Mentone lifesavers patrolled local beaches for a combined total of more than 2800 hours. They performed four rescues.
