A PARKDALE resident celebrated her 100th birthday with family and friends last week.

Catherine Erickson, known to many as Kath, was born on 20 January 1924 in Shepparton. She reached the 100-year milestone last week, marked with a birthday party attended by dozens of people.

Erickson served in the Army during the Second World War; the Department of Veteran Affairs says she enlisted in the Australian Women’s Army Service in 1943 and served until the end of the war. Her husband Stanley, who died in 2012, was also a veteran.

Catherine and Stanley Erickson raised two daughters together.

After the war, Erickson worked as a milk bar owner and in the racing industry. Post retirement she enjoys watching horses and cheering on her beloved Richmond Tigers.
