Charges over fraud

A HEATHERTON property was raided last week and two men were arrested as part of a police investigation into alleged investment frauds.

Victoria Police is in the middle of an investigation into “multi-million dollar investment frauds”. At around 7.30am on 13 September, police raided a property on Old Dandenong Road and arrested a 62-year-old man and a 24-year-old man from Heatherton.

In a statement, Victoria Police said both men “have been released and are expected to be charged at a later date with attempted obtain property by deception, obtain property by deception and theft.”

Police arrested a 51-year-old in Ormond later in the day. Police said the arrests “relate to an alleged scam that occurred in Ormond between May and August.”

“It is alleged a man, claiming to be an established developer, convinced a victim to obtain finance for a commercial property development. The man allegedly took money from the victim, with no building works ever proceeding,” Victoria Police said.

The Ormond man was charged with attempted obtain property by deception, obtain property by deception, and theft. He has been remanded to face Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on 17 January next year.
