CONSTRUCTION of the new Mordi Aquatic Centre has reached the halfway mark, with the pool on track to open next year.

The $87.5 million pool project is scheduled for completion in late 2026. The finished centre will include a 50 metre multi-purpose lap swimming pool, a learn to swim pool, a warm water and exercise pool, a leisure pool, a spa, sauna, and steam room, a gym and fitness section, and a café.

Last week, Kingston Council issued a statement confirming the project is on track. “The roof is going on and construction has reached the halfway milestone at 50 percent complete. With all four pool concrete structures complete, nine giant 28-metre timber beams craned into place and internal works moving quickly, we’re well on track for completion in late 2026,” council said.

The federal government has put in $20 million towards the project, with the rest funded by Kingston Council. The parcel of land at 76 Governor Road, by Jack Grut Reserve, was  purchased by council for $14.6 million.

The project is being undertaken by builder ADCO.
