DIVERTED stormwater is set to be used to revitalise GR Bricker Reserve.
Last week Kingston Council confirmed that Entracon Civil Pty Ltd had been contracted to undertake stage one of the project at the Moorabbin park. The first stage will include diverting stormwater from a main drain servicing a 205-hectare catchment, installing a pump station, and constructing new drainage pipes, pits, and a vegetated filter basin. A large storage tank will also be installed under the oval to store the treated water from the Melbourne Water main drain.
The completed project will provide a year-round water source for the reserve and reduce pollution flowing into Port Phillip Bay.
Kingston mayor Georgina Oxley said the project is being “delivered under council’s nationally recognised Integrated Water Strategy” and “demonstrates how smart, sustainable water management can deliver multiple community benefits.”
“Our Integrated Water Strategy is about creating a water-sensitive city – one that supports healthy environments, great sporting facilities and saves valuable drinking water. GR Bricker Reserve is one of many projects that will help us achieve that vision,” Cr Oxley said. “Similar projects are planned for other reserves across Kingston in the coming years, helping to green and cool our suburbs for current and future generations.”
