Investigators have released CCTV images in relation to an assault on an elderly man in a Frankston shopping centre in July.

Police have been told the victim, a 70-year-old Frankston South man, was exiting a supermarket at a Beach Street shopping centre when a woman bumped into him about 1pm.

The victim made comment to the woman and a verbal argument eschewed between the pair which escalated into a physical altercation.

Without warning, an unknown man ran at the victim and punched him to the side of the head, rendering him unconscious.

The man and woman then fled the shopping centre before police arrived.

Investigators have released two CCTV images of a man and a woman they believe may be able to assist with their inquiries.

The man is described as aged in his 20’s, with a solid build and dark coloured hair.

At the time of the incident he was wearing a yellow hi-vis zip up hoodie and dark pants with white shoes.

The woman was described as being aged in her early 20’s, with a thin build, red hair and black framed glasses.

She was wearing burgundy pants, black sneakers and a black jacket.
