ASPENDALE has pulled off the double feat of a pupil being named the junior mayor of the City of Melbourne for the second year in succession.

St Louis de Monfort’s School Sienna Koop won the right to be Melbourne’s junior mayor on 24 August and was presented with mayoral robes she will wear when helping councillors and Lord Mayor Robert Doyle at some civic functions and events for the next 12 months.

The 11-year-old emerged as the winner from a field of enthusiastic and impressive grade 5 to 6 pupils from around Melbourne and its suburbs.

Sienna made it back-to-back wins for St Louis de Montfort’s after school captain Mason Dwyer’s stint as City of Melbourne junior year for the previous year.

“I love everything about Melbourne especially the culture sights people events activities festivals and opportunities to get out there and live life to the full,” Sienna said.

She also felt to improve Melbourne it would be good to run a rail system to the airport and to provide opportunities for the people of Melbourne to have a say on how to make Melbourne even better.

A judging panel including acting Lord Mayor Arron Wood, 3AW radio presenter Denis Walter and Melbourne Day committee chairman Campbell Walker decided to anoint Sienna as Melbourne’s junior mayor in the fifth year since the competition’s inception. Sienna took part in Melbourne Day festivities on 30 August.

Melbourne Day is held on 30 August each day to commemorate the day in 1835 the settlers sailed from Van Diemen’s Land aboard the schooner Enterprise.

The settlers landed on the north bank of the Yarra River and established Melbourne’s first permanent settlement.
