HAWTHORN Football Club’s new home base at Dingley Village will receive a $20 million cash boost if Labor wins the federal election this weekend.
The Hawks had their new Dingley Village homebase ticked off by Kingston Council in 2016. The club purchased the 28 hectare site the same year.
Part of the project includes the construction of the Kennedy Community Centre.
The project will include a new pavilion and oval with “gender equal” facilities, administration spaces, an indoor stadium for community basketball, netball and volleyball teams, and two ovals for community sporting events.
The project is expected to cost around $130 million.
Isaacs MP Mark Dreyfus said “the Hawks’ new home in Dingley Village is a step closer with a $20 million commitment under an elected Labor Government.”
“It will become a great community space where non-profit organisations will share the club’s resources together with an indoor stadium for community basketball, netball and volleyball teams,” he said.
“The new Kennedy Community Centre will also facilitate greater participation in sport by women and girls as well as participants in junior sport, wheelchair AFL and other sports for people with disabilities.”
