FUNDING for Medicare and energy bill relief are the biggest benefits for Frankston residents in this year’s federal budget, Dunkley MP Peta Murphy says.
The federal government’s budget was handed down last Tuesday. The budget, the first delivered by Labor in a decade, projects a $4.2 billion surplus.
Dunkley MP Peta Murphy says that residents in her electorate will benefit most from the budget’s funds for Medicare. She says that nearly 74,000 residents in Dunkley will “benefit from the largest ever increase to bulk billing incentives”, and that more than 40,000 residents will “be able to save money on prescriptions by accessing two months worth of medicine for the price of a single prescription for more than 300 common PBS medicines”.
Murphy also spruiked measures taken to reduce energy bills. “In addition to its existing initiatives on cheaper child care and cheaper medicines, Labor announced a new energy price relief plan that will provide relief for more than five million households,” she said. “Labor’s energy price relief plan will provide local residents and businesses with a rebate of up to $250 for eligible households and $325 for eligible small businesses. I know that this will make a real difference in household budgets and help ease pressure on families.”
