Moorabbin, Chelsea and Mordialloc Police with the assistance of Air Wing located a missing child from a beach in Chelsea on Tuesday, 7 November.

The 7-year-old Glen Waverley boy disappeared from his family’s tent and police were alerted about 12.30pm.

A joint search involving Air Wing, Water Police along with Lifesaving Victoria were called in, as there were concerns the boy may have gone into the water.

It is believed the child walked about one kilometre along the beach before he was spotted by the Air Wing about 1.10pm.

Air Wing then directed officers on the ground to the missing boy, who swiftly located him before reuniting the boy with his parents.

Quotes attributable to Sergeant Patrick Stainthorpe:

“It’s every parent’s worst nightmare given it was a hot and incredibly busy day, so the boy’s rescue is a testament to the quick efforts and communication of the Air Wing and local police units.”

“The accurate descriptions of the boy’s clothing provided to police were paramount to identifying the lost child. Due to the accurate descriptions, our Air Wing camera operator was able to spot the boy on a crowded beach and notify members on the ground immediately.”
