A man has been arrested by police when he dumped a stolen car in Frankston this morning all thanks to a tip off from a retired member.
The retired member called police when he spotted a suspicious vehicle in Mordialloc around 2.15am.
He had followed the car through various roads in the vicinity of White Street and Warren Road noting it appeared to be casing properties.
Local police responded and the Air Wing was called in to track the Holden Cruze sedan.
Officers attempted to intercept the vehicle, which was stolen and bearing stolen plates, before it sped off southbound towards Mordialloc and Aspendale.
Stop sticks were successfully deployed on Cranbourne Road near Joy Street in Frankston North.
The car continued on before it came to a stop on Beach Street in Frankston.
The driver ran from the car, through yards and jumped fences, before he was arrested by police with assistance from the Air Wing above.
The 30-year-old man, who will now be interviewed by police from Operation Trinity, was found with multiple car keys on him which are believed to be stolen.
Victoria Police has been specifically targeting burglars and car thieves each night since March 2023.
Operation Trinity, which runs from dusk until dawn across Melbourne is easily Victoria Police’s most well-resourced frontline policing operation at present.
Since March 2023, there has been 70 additional police including Dog Squad, Public Order Response and Air Wing rostered each night, on top of existing patrols.
As a result of this intense focus, police have made over 1,450 arrests relating to burglaries and car thefts in the past twelve months.
A further 6,600 people have been processed for other offences detected by police working nightshift across the Trinity area of operations.
