ROAD safety was at the top of the agenda during the statewide AFL Road Safety Round last week.
Players across the state wore blue armbands to honour those who have died on the road.
At Ben Kavanagh Reserve, home of the Mordialloc Redbacks Junior Football Club, police visited to address attendees about road safety. Detective senior sergeant Paul Lineham from the major collision investigation unit shared facts with players, families, and supporters – he said “every second and every metre counts.” Lineham told attendees that at 100 kmph a vehicle takes 98 metres to stop, but at 110 kmph this distance increases to 113 metres.
The Frankston SES also attended with their emergency response equipment.
A statement from the Mordialloc Redbacks Junior Football Club read “by taking part in the Road Safety Round, the Mordialloc Redbacks Junior Football Club not only reinforced their dedication to player and community safety but also fostered a culture of responsibility that extends beyond the football field. Their efforts demonstrate the club’s ongoing commitment to community values such as purpose, passion, and belonging for local families.”
