EDITHVALE Primary School will gain a new covered outdoor area and an upgraded basketball court following last week’s state budget announcement.
The $1.34 million project, funded through the 2026-27 Victorian Budget, is expected to be completed by December 2028.
The new facilities will create space for multi-purpose outdoor learning, sports events and school community gatherings.
“This is an incredibly exciting announcement for our school community,” Edithvale Primary School principal Detta Gordon said.
“This investment will enhance the way our students learn, play and connect, creating flexible outdoor spaces, and becoming a much-needed space for us to come together as a whole school, protected from the elements.”
The complete school funding package includes $761.8 million for new and growing schools across Victoria, $216.7 million for high-quality modular classrooms and buildings, $104 million to acquire land for future schools in high-growth areas, and $28.8 million to improve access for students with disability and additional needs. Edithvale is one of 31 government schools sharing in $294.8 million for upgrades.
The latest investment builds on previous funding for Edithvale Primary, which received more than $1.42 million across the 2018-19 and 2019-20 state budgets, to replace an old building and for other upgrade and modernisation works.
It has also received more than $125,000 in grants since 2019 for an outdoor sensory play space and additional shaded learning area.
“We are very grateful for this funding and what it will mean for our students and families,” Gordon said.
“These improvements will provide safe, engaging and versatile spaces that will be enjoyed for years to come, and we look forward to seeing the project come to life.”
