WITH the long-awaited opening of the Mordi Aquatic Centre coming up, work has begun to form the centre’s schedule of programs.
Consultation is underway to shape the new facilities’ health, fitness and aquatic programs. Kingston mayor Georgina Oxley said “we are building this centre for our community, so it’s incredibly important that the programs and services offered reflect what people want and need.”
“We know that health and wellbeing looks different for everyone. For some people it might be lap swimming or rehabilitation programs, for others it could be group fitness classes, learn-to-swim opportunities, social connection or simply having a welcoming place to move and stay active,” she said. “Our goal is to create a vibrant and inclusive facility with something for everyone; a centre that offers flexibility, variety and high levels of community use from day one.
“The Mordi Aquatic Centre is one of the biggest investments Kingston has ever made in community infrastructure, and this consultation is another important opportunity for residents to help shape its future.”
The $87.5 million Mordi Aquatic Centre, which is being built at 76 Governor Road, is scheduled to open in early 2027. It will feature four pools, a gym, and a sauna and steam room.
