WORK is underway to plant thousands of trees across the Kingston municipality.
Kingston Council is planning to have over 100,000 trees under its management by the end of this year’s planting program. 5200 trees will be planted this year, with 1200 paid for through a Suburban Rail Loop Authority agreement to replace lost canopy from major projects.
A statement from Kingston Council read that the planting would “mark a significant step towards a greener, cooler, and more resilient Kingston.”
“Planting runs from May to September each year, when cooler conditions help young trees establish strong roots before the summer heat,” council said. “These efforts support council’s Urban Forest Strategy and our goal of increasing canopy cover across Kingston.”
