KINGSTON Council has reappointed its CEO for a further four years.
Council CEO Peter Bean was appointed to the role in 2021 after former CEO Julie Reid departed with two years left to run on her contract. Last week, Kingston councillors voted to extend Bean’s contract by four years with an option for an additional year.
Kingston mayor Georgina Oxley said that Bean has been “an outstanding CEO for Kingston. He brings a calm, steady head, a wealth of experience and a genuine commitment to our community.”
“The past few years have brought both significant achievements and real challenges. Throughout that time, Peter has provided strong leadership and sound advice, helping council navigate increasing financial pressures while keeping our focus firmly on the community,” Cr Oxley said. “Under Peter’s leadership, Kingston has remained focused on listening to our residents, delivering the services and infrastructure they rely on, finding smarter and more efficient ways to work, and planning for our city’s future. Council is delighted to extend Peter’s contract, and I’m personally looking forward to continuing to work closely with him as we build on the great progress that has been made.”
Bean has overseen Kingston Council during a difficult period; two state government appointed monitors have been reporting on the council, with their stay scheduled to conclude this week.
After the announcement of his contract extension, Bean said “I am very proud to continue as CEO and to keep working alongside council to deliver for our community.”
“Kingston is a fantastic place with a very bright future, and I am excited about the opportunities ahead as we continue to invest in the services, facilities and initiatives that matter most to our residents,” Bean said. “I would like to thank the mayor and councillors for their confidence and support. Councils are at their best when there is robust discussion and a genuine focus on achieving the best outcomes for the community. Our councillors are deeply committed to serving the residents and shaping a positive future for our city. I look forward to continuing to work with them, our staff and the community to deliver on that vision.
“I am incredibly fortunate to lead such a dedicated and talented team. The achievements of recent years have only been possible because of the passion, professionalism and commitment of Kingston’s staff, who work every day to make a positive difference in our community. I look forward to continuing to work with council, our staff and the community to build on our successes and ensure Kingston remains a great place to live, work and visit.”
