MORE than 6000 surgeries have taken place inside the newly redeveloped Frankston Hospital.
The redevelopment of the hospital, now renamed the Peninsula University Hospital, cost $1.1 billion. The new hospital building opened in January, and has since hosted more than 6400 surgeries, more than 2300 oncology treatment episodes, around 370 chemotherapy patients, and nearly 900 births.
The redevelopment added an additional 130 beds and 15 operating theatres, with capacity to see an extra 35,000 patients each year. Frankston MP Paul Edbrooke said “this has transformed how local families get the free public healthcare they need.”
Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan visited the hospital last week to mark the six month anniversary of its opening. She said “Labor designed this hospital, built this hospital and opened this hospital and now thousands of Victorians are getting the care they need close to home.”
