LIFEGUARDS from Waves Leisure Centre are celebrating after being crowned the winners of Life Saving Victoria’s Pool Lifeguard Challenge for 2026.
The competition was held at Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre. Waves lifeguards Lisa Ferguson, Mya Winnell, Clark Aylward and Tom Stevenson, supported by team manager Jess Kallergis, teamed up to take out first place.
24 teams took part on the day, which featured more than seven hours of lifeguard challenges. Lifeguards took part in simulated emergency incidents, medical treatments, and people management scenarios.
Life Saving Victoria manager of partnerships and engagement Andrew Wilson said the event “was a highly rewarding and worthwhile experience for all involved.”
“We had fierce competition, and a lot of fun, with pool lifeguards coming together from across Victoria,” Wilson said. “It’s important lifeguards keep their skills sharp so they can keep our community safe in the water. Life Saving Victoria’s Pool Lifeguard Challenge is a great opportunity for them to do this through some friendly competition.”
