THE Environmental Protection Agency have been investigating an oil slick with a strong odour in Kananook Creeek between Seaford and Frankston.
The alert issued by the EPA on 6 August advised people to avoid contact with the water until further notice.
Frankston City councillor Emily Green wrote on social media on Friday (7 August): “I’ve been advised that the hydrocarbon pollution appears to be entering Bardia Drain before flowing into Kananook Creek”.
“Council officers and the EPA met on site today to inspect the drainage network and continue tracing the source. At this stage, investigations are still ongoing and the source hasn’t been confirmed.
“I understand how upsetting this would be to see, especially while investigations are continuing.”
Over the weekend, barriers were installed to prevent the spill spreading towards the bay.
