A DIESEL spill in Kananook Creek will continue to be monitored.
In a statement, Melbourne Water said it had “successfully managed the diesel spill”, which was first reported in the waterway on 5 August (EPA investigates Kananook Creek oil slick” The Times 11/8/2026).
“Monitoring indicates the spill no longer poses a risk to Kananook Creek or the local community. As a precaution, the booms located near Bardia Avenue will remain in place while we continue monitoring the waterway,” Melbourne Water said. “Over the coming weeks, our teams will continue to inspect and monitor Kananook Creek. We are continuing to work closely with Frankston City Council and Environment Protection Authority Victoria.
“Thank you to the community for your patience and cooperation while response and monitoring activities were underway.”
