AN investigation is underway after a fire engulfed the Frankston Visitor Information Centre.
The vacant site at Pier Promenade went up in flames on Sunday, 13 September. Firefighters soon arrived to extinguish the blaze before investigators moved in.
In a statement, Frankston mayor Sue Baker said “Frankston City Council would like to thank Victoria Police, Frankston Fire Brigade, and Fire Rescue Victoria for their response.”
“Emergency services responded and brought the fire under control. Thankfully, no one was injured,” Cr Baker said. “The building has been secured, and an investigation is underway. We ask community members to avoid the immediate area and follow the directional signage. Public toilets near the affected building have been temporarily closed. The closest available public toilets are located along Pier Promenade.
“If you witnessed the incident or have any information that may assist with the investigation, we encourage you to contact Victoria Police.”
The Visitor Centre site is vacant, however earlier this year a planning application for the site was filed by Ecco Enterprises Group to transform the site into a Mediterranean-style restaurant.
