A POP Choir community group is set to launch in Frankston next month.
The community choir has more than 1000 members across its six locations. It has groups in Mordialloc, Mornington, Oakleigh, Moorabbin, and Eltham.
The Frankston Pop Choir will hold its first event at the Frankston Mechanics Institute Hall on 7 October. Pop Choir co-founder Sharon Stokes said “We have wanted to bring Pop Choir to Frankston for a while. It has such a great community feel and we have had lots of enquiries from people in Frankston and the surrounding areas who love the idea of Pop Choir but do not necessarily want to travel to Mornington or further into Melbourne each week.”
“For us, Pop Choir has always been about more than singing. It is about creating a place where people can walk in, switch off for an hour, sing, laugh, meet people and feel part of something. Frankston feels like a really natural place to build another one of those communities and we are so excited to see it come to life,” Stokes said. “We now have more than 1100 people as part of the Pop Choir community, which still blows our minds when we think about how it all started. We would love to see that grow to 2000 and eventually take Pop Choir into other parts of Australia, but we never want to lose what makes it special.”
The Frankston choir will be led by Swedish-born vocalist Isobel Olofsson. Stokes said the performer “has been involved in choirs since she was a child, including performing with the 40-woman Pearls of the Sound barbershop choir in Sweden, which competed in the Barbershop Nordic Championships.”
