AN investigation into an alleged stabbing at Mordialloc Pier is continuing.
Police allege that two groups of young people began brawling on the Mordialloc Pier at about 5.45pm on 18 October. An 18-year-old sustained deep lacerations to his wrists during the incident.
The 18-year-old Rowville man then ran to the Woolworths supermarket on Main Street, where emergency services were called. He was taken to hospital with “serious but non-life-threatening injuries”, a Victoria Police statement read.
Shortly afterwards, police arrested three teenagers in relation to an alleged affray in the supermarket. In a statement, police said they will “investigate if this incident was linked to the stabbing.”
A 16-year-old from the Greater Dandenong area, 15-year-old from the Knox area, and a 15-year-old from the Whitehorse area were arrested and subsequently released.
The violence at Mordialloc Pier has sparked widespread condemnation from locals. Mordialloc MP Tim Richardson said “the reports of an alleged attack in Mordialloc are disturbing and disgraceful. We know incidents like this are deeply unsettling for our local community.
“Everyone has the right to feel safe, enjoy our wonderful beaches and the thriving Mordialloc community. It is what makes Kingston so vibrant,” Richardson said. “Each year Victoria Police provides significant police presence and resources as part of Operation SummerSafe across our beaches and townships. We have seen this recently in Mordialloc and Chelsea.
“I wanted to acknowledge and sincerely thank our first responders and Victoria Police for their work in keeping our community safe. They will continue supporting our local community and ensure we all can enjoy our wonderful beaches.”
