THE Len Phelps Pavilion at Carrum Downs Recreation Reserve is set to be developed after matching commitments from the state government and state opposition last week.
Both the Labor and Liberal campaigns last week promised to spend $3.5 million on the pavilion redevelopment.
The redeveloped facility is set to feature kitchen and bar facilities, public toilets, player change rooms, umpires’ change facilities, storage facilities, and improved accessibility measures.
Incumbent Carrum MP Sonya Kilkenny said “Carrum Downs Recreation Reserve is an important part of our local community, and I want to make sure our sporting clubs have the facilities they need to grow and thrive.”
“A new Len Phelps Pavilion will be the final piece in the transformation of this sport and community precinct,” she said. “This investment will help deliver a better pavilion for local players, families and volunteers, and I’m proud to be backing the clubs that bring our community together.”
The Liberal candidate for Carrum, Jeff Shelley, said “for 45 years, the Len Phelps Pavilion has been at the heart of the Carrum Downs sporting community, serving generations of local families and athletes.
“With more women and girls participating in local sport, our facilities need to keep pace, providing modern, accessible and female-friendly amenities for everyone.”
