THE 50th anniversary of the former Baxter Technical School is being celebrated.
The first classes at the school were taught in 1976, with an initial intake of 115 students. It was later renamed to Mount Erin College, and now provides education for roughly 500 secondary students.
Mount Erin College principal Jenni Hodgins said the school “has a rich legacy with a strong commitment to vocational education and recognition of the individual strengths, interests and aspirations of every student.”
“For many students, there are already family connections to the college, as parents and even grandparents attended the school when it was Baxter Tech. We want to honour our history with the College, whilst looking to the future,” Hodgins said
A new facility is set to open at the school next year as it enters its next 50 years of operation. Hodgins said “our new building works, set to be complete in 2027, will foster connection towards their peers and the community that we have grown alongside.
“We want students to enter the new buildings and have a sense of calm and belonging, and we invite the generations of students, staff and families who have been part of our College to join us in 2027, when our building works are complete, for a special opportunity to reconnect with our history and explore our revitalised learning spaces.”
