POLICE are pursuing a thief who robs letter boxes to steal people’s credit-card letters, and then attempts to trick banks into sending him their PIN details.

Detective Senior Constable Amelia Faulkner said the thief targeted large apartment blocks with multiple boxes, using a master key to gain access.

He activates the cards and attempts to have the PINs sent to a false address, or returns later to steal PINs.

The man is described as Caucasian, aged 30, 175cm tall, medium build with blue eyes. He has a goatee beard, receding hairline and often wears a baseball cap. He operates throughout the southern suburbs.

Detective Faulkner said a cache of 50 letters showing people’s bank records and credit card applications had been found in Old Wells Rd, near Amaroo Dr, Chelsea Heights, last week.

Anyone with information should call her on 9556 6565.
