WORK has begun on construction of the Frankston Stadium in Seaford. A contract for the redevelopment worth $49.74 million was awarded to Ireland Brown Constructions Pty Ltd earlier this year. The total costs are expected to be $60 million, with Frankston Council paying $30 million and the state and federal governments putting in $15 million each. The stadium will host the Frankston & District Basketball Association and Bayside Gymnastics Club, and feature 10 basketball courts and a purpose-built gymnastics hall. KINGSTON City Hall’s historic organ will be in action this weekend.The Style 270 4/21 Wurlitzer at Kingston City Hall was installed at the State Theatre Melbourne nearly 100 years ago, and is one of only four organs to have the Style 270 classification.On Sunday, 3 August, Melbourne-based vocalist Ruby Page will perform alongside organist Scott Harrison on the Wurlitzer (pictured left). Police have arrested a man after a stolen car rammed a police vehicle in Langwarrin overnight. Officers first spotted the grey Ford Focus driving at high speed on the Monash Freeway in Glen Iris about 12.50am. Highway Patrol officers activated their light and sirens, however the vehicle evaded officers, taking off at a fast rate of speed. The vehicle was later spotted on Heath Mews in Langwarrin about 2.45am. While attempting to intercept the vehicle, a police car was rammed by the Ford which took off once again. THE annual mayor’s reading challenge will return in August, with a series of free events scheduled across Frankston’s libraries.
