A MAN has been caught driving an e-scooter at 65kmph while more than double the legal blood alcohol limit in Mentone, police say. Police pulled the man over on Beach Road in Mentone on 3 January. The driver allegedly returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.105. The 32-year-old Highett man will be charged with drink driving, using an unregistered vehicle, and unlicensed riding, police say. THE Carrum Coast Guard’s annual fun run will be held next month. The fun run has been held for the last eight years. This year, runners will get started at the Patterson River Launching Way at 8.30am on 18 February. Two runs around Patterson River can be undertaken, a 6 kilometre and a 12 kilometre. The day will also feature a barbeque and kids activities. Entry for adults is $40 for the six kilometre track and $45 for the 12 kilometre. Money raised will go back into the Coast Guard. A GROUP of passionate beachgoers born around the world have formed the latest batch of lifesavers with the Bonbeach Life Saving Club. The club’s December training brought together nine young people born overseas who now live locally. The lifesavers-in-training, aged between 16 and 20, were born across Sri Lanka, Pakistan, India, Vietnam, and Afghanistan. NEARLY 150 people enjoyed a meal and Christmas festivities at the 2023 Chelsea Community Christmas Lunch. The annual event, held at St Joseph’s Hall, brings together people on Christmas Day. 145 guests attended this year. The free event featured Christmas carols and an appearance from Santa.
