A NEW sculpture has been unveiled at the Karingal Hub Shopping Centre. Sound Shell was revealed to the public on 21 September. The artwork is 2.5 metres tall and also features a soundscape element. The sculpture is the work of Mornington Peninsula resident Christabel Wigley. She said that the piece was inspired by “the beauty and evocative nature of a seashell”. “The pattern has been hand-crafted and carved from a giant block of polystyrene, with plaster sculpting ridges and nodes applied to produce the Turbo shell. THE Peninsula Raiders superules football club has broken a 27-year drought this season, with the over 45’sa team taking home premiership and bringing home the gold. The club is based at Alexandra Park in Mornington and has about 110 players across four teams. THE search to find Kingston’s woman of the year has begun. Nominations for the annual Kingston woman of the year awards are now open. Women can be nominated in four different categories – courageous commitment, excelling in arts and sport, inspiring innovation, and success in STEM. A MENTAL health advocate was named Kingston’s young citizen of the year at an event last week. Alice Ho took out the award for her work in the mental health space. She works with local youth committees and leadership groups, and advocates for the needs of marginalised young people. CARERS are coming together for free walking events. Pathway to Carers is a program run across Victoria which connects carers of people with disabilities, mental illness, or the elderly. The monthly walk launched in Mordialloc last week. In addition to the walk, carers are also offered information on services and support they can access.
