TWO events to help encourage women to get involved with sports are being held this week. A free multisports day is being hosted by the Strong Sisters Australia Movement in Carrum Downs this weekend. Women and girls who attend will be able to play cricket, football, soccer, tennis, hockey, archery, and more. The day runs from 12pm to 5pm at Carrum Downs Recreation Reserve on 17 September. PENINSULA Leisure won four accolades at the recent Aquatics and Recreation Victoria Awards. The Peninsula Aquatic Recreation Centre won a facility management of the year award. Pines Forest Aquatic Centre received the honour for best seasonal outdoor pool facility management. POLICE are looking into a car crash involving an allegedly stolen car in Skye last week. The collision occurred at around 9pm on 7 September on Ballarto Road. Police allege a white Ford Ranger stolen from Somerville on 25 July was involved. The Ford Ranger was traveling north on Westernport Highway when the driver allegedly ran a red light and crashed into an oncoming car. The two Ford Ranger occupants then fled on foot. A SWORD was among the items seized by police from a Frankston property earlier this month. On 1 September police raided a commercial address on Station Street in Frankston. There they allegedly seized 23 imitation firearms, 33 knives, 15 machetes, 14 foldable knives, a hatchet, and a sword. Police have arrested a 46-year-old Frankston man. They say he will be charged on summons with selling a controlled weapon to a child, sell or advertise prohibited weapons, and sell or advertise for sale imitation firearms. FEDERATION University is planning to deliver its early childhood education degree from the Frankston Chisholm TAFE campus. The university will offer classes for its Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood Education) at the Frankston TAFE from 2023. The classes will be offered to students who have completed Chisholm’s Diploma of Early Childhood and Care.
