FOUR sets of boom gates have been removed as part of Frankston line level crossing removal works. Last month between 26 July and 29 July, boom gates were removed at Edithvale Road, Chelsea Road, Argyle Avenue, and Bondi Road. Bonbeach, Edithvale, and Chelsea stations were all destroyed, with a rebuild imminent. Trains are now running express through Edithvale, Chelsea, and Bonbeach. This will occur until 13 September when buses will replace trains between Mordialloc, Frankston and Stony Point. The three rebuilt stations are expected to be open and operational by November. A driver has been charged after a fatal crash in Mentone on Sunday 15 August. The charges come after a vehicle allegedly struck two pedestrians on Nepean Highway after 5pm. One of the pedestrians, a 16-year-old Parkdale boy, died at the scene. The other pedestrian, a 16-year-old Parkdale girl, was treated for minor injuries. The alleged driver, a 31-year-old Dandenong man, has since been charged with culpable driving. He was remanded to appear at the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on 17 December. MORNINGTON Peninsula Shire mayor Cr Despi O’Connor teamed up with Frankston Council mayor Kris Bolam at the studios of radio station RPP FM to encourage everyone to get vaccinated against COVID-19. “Getting vaccinated is a positive step in keeping our community protected, safe and open for business,” Cr O’Connor said. Cr Bolam said the opening of a vaccination hub in Frankston and the increase in vaccines being made available, meant it was easy for people to book an appointment and get vaccinated locally. A POLICE investigation into a theft at a Carrum Downs store last year is still ongoing. A man entered the Ballarto Road store on 29 October last year. He pulled out a knife and demanded money. After a customer entered, the man fled. He stole a bottle of alcohol on his way out. Police are still investigating the incident. A MAN is wanted for stealing items from a parked vehicle. Police say that on 2 August, an unknown offender stole from a car parked outside a shop on McMahons Road in Frankston.
