Greater Dandenong Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged a man following the theft of $100,000 worth of stolen property inside shipping containers across Greater Dandenong. It is understood three containers were taken from a reserve on Box Street in Dandenong containing stolen property and memorabilia of a cricket club, a football club and a local council on 9 October. Police recovered a dumped container with some of the property from the cricket and football club in Grantsville on 27 October. DAN Maitland-Smith has turned a tragedy into an opportunity to do good. Maitland-Smith’s sister Bec Maitland suffered a stroke in 2016, which has permanently impacted her life. Since her stroke, her brother has been raising money for the Stroke Foundation. Just this year he has brought in more than $60,000, with no signs of slowing down. Last weekend, Maitland-Smith teamed up with fellow Mordialloc locals to tackle the annual Stride4Stroke run for the fourth time. He formed part of the Training with Mates team. THE new pavilion and sporting facilities at Roy Dore Reserve have opened. The pavilion project and upgrades at the surrounding sporting fields cost $12.5 million. The site now hosts the pavilion, upgraded tennis courts, and new netball courts. Kingston Council spent more than $8 million on the project, and the state government put in $3.5 million. A COALITION of councils in the south-east of Victoria have put together a plan to fight climate change. The South East Councils Climate Change Alliance features representatives from Kingston, Frankston, Mornington Peninsula, Bayside, Bass Coast, Cardinia, Casey, Greater Dandenong, and Port Phillip councils. It has released a strategy outlining measures to focus on to tackle the growing dangers of climate change. Many of the SECCCA councils, including Frankston, Kingston, and the Mornington Peninsula, are along the coastline. A GROUP of Frankston High School students are training to tackle a 550 kilometre bike ride later this month. The 2023 RACV Great Vic Bike Ride runs from 25 November to 3 December – the ride spans from Orbost to Wonthaggi. Frankston High School students have been taking part in the annual event since 2009. This year 29 students from years seven to ten will join three teachers and six parents on the ride. Teacher Jason Burt helps organise the trip.
