CONSTRUCTION is underway on the revamped Karingal Hub Shopping Centre. The project, now projected to cost $160 million, will feature the construction of Aldi and Coles supermarkets, in addition to a refurbishment of the existing Woolworths. A “town square” is set to be added as part of the redevelopment works. The precinct will host fresh food vendors, as well as a new playground. Moorabbin Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating a theft from a car in Aspendale Gardens and subsequent deceptions in Chelsea Heights and Aspendale Gardens earlier this month. Investigators have been told an unknown person gained entry to a vehicle on Angie Court between 10.30pm and 11.30pm on 1 February, stealing a wallet Bank cards from the wallet were later used at two convenience stores and a restaurant on Wells Road, Chelsea Heights and a bank in Aspendale Gardens. Southern Metro Division 4 Divisional Response Unit detectives executed a warrant in Carrum Downs this morning and located over 400 alleged cannabis plants. Officers attended the Leah Grove address and discovered the alleged 180kg of drugs about 5.30am. Forensic officers from the Victoria Police Botany Unit are attending the scene to assess the plants. A MASSIVE blaze has torn through a home on Tarella Road, Chelsea. Just after 9pm, 4 February, a fire broke out at the house. CFA attended the scene to attempt to extinguish the blaze. A statement from Chelsea SES, which also attended the scene, said “the massive blaze tore through the weatherboard home and began just after 9pm when neighbours heard a loud explosion. A HORSE sculpture attacked by vandals last year will soon be reinstalled on the Mordialloc foreshore. The statue was the target of an attempted theft in July last year (“Horse doesn’t bolt”, The News, 10/7/19).
