BAYSIDE Shopping Centre has flipped the switch and will now be powered by solar energy. More than 4000 solar panels have been installed on the roof of the centre. Bayside manager Gabe North-Harney said the panels could generate 1.5 megawatts of power. “We want to make our centres more sustainable. A PETITION calling for youth crisis centres in Frankston and on the Mornington Peninsula has been signed by almost 800 people. The Youth2Campaign is advocating for a plan to build two crisis accommodation facilities with active staffing 24/7. The two proposed centres would be in Frankston and Rosebud. A barbeque was held on 7 August by the campaign team, with dozens of people turning up to lend support. KINGSTON and Bayside police members teamed up with the SES and Parks Victoria for a missing person search simulation last Monday, 29 July. Police said the exercise was run in response to the “growing number” of reported missing persons. “Exercises like this give us the opportunity to practice and test important skills police use on a daily basis when searching for missing persons,” Senior Sergeant Campbell said. “It’s a great opportunity to build on the great relationships we have with other agencies such as SES and Parks Victoria.” Over 25 police officers took part. A DRIVER has been caught driving over 50 kmph over the speed limit on the Dingley Bypass. On 29 July, Moorabbin highway patrol members clocked a vehicle driving at 132 kmph in the 80 kmph zone between Tootal Road and Boundary Road. The car was intercepted by police. Police said the “driver allegedly explained the reason for his speed was because he was wearing steel-capped work boots.” The car was impounded for 30 days and the driver will be charged on summons.
