YEAR 7 and 8 students at Monterey Secondary College are using virtual reality technology to complete a creative project. The school was awarded a Creative Victoria learning partnership grant last year to undertake the project. Students are teaming with VR artists Susannah Langly and Warren Armstrong to design and bring to life virtual worlds. AN immersive deep sea exhibition has opened at the Karingal Hub shopping centre. The Under The Sea exhibition features an interactive maze and rooms with glowing inflatables and murals. The artworks were completed by artists Sahil Roy, Melanie Caple, Chuck Mayfield, David Lee Pereira, Cax One, and Maria-Rosa Szychowska. RECIPIENTS of this year’s Kingston Council annual grants program have been chosen. Council has boasted that more than $1.6 million will be distributed to local community groups and charities this year. Among the 115 recipients are the Mordialloc Men’s Shed Inc, Kingston Toy Library, Mentone Community Garden Club, and Peninsula Dragonfly’s Dragon Boat Club. This year’s arts grants recipients have also been selected. THE state government is spending $110,000 on Mornington peninsula tourism events, including this year’s Devilbend Trail Run, Peninsula VineHop Festival, Taste of Sorrento and The Big Knit. Eastern Victoria MP Tom McIntosh said the events would go ahead thanks to the government’s small and medium events program. Taste of Sorrento returned after a seven-year hiatus, reimagined into a month-long festival. A YOUNG Mentone scout has travelled to the World Scout Jamboree in South Korea. Ruby Larkins is a VCE student at Kilbreda College in Mentone. The 16-year-old began in the Cubs program at age 7, and has since participated in Scouts and is a Venturer. Larkins will join 48,000 other scouts worldwide at this year’s World Scout Jamboree in Saeangeum, South Korea.
