A YOUNG Mentone scout has travelled to the World Scout Jamboree in South Korea. Ruby Larkins is a VCE student at Kilbreda College in Mentone. The 16-year-old began in the Cubs program at age 7, and has since participated in Scouts and is a Venturer. Larkins will join 48,000 other scouts worldwide at this year’s World Scout Jamboree in Saeangeum, South Korea. A BOOK featuring endangered Australian animals has earned a Frankston South author an award nomination. Myke Mollard’s Australia’s Endangered Bush Creatures has been shortlisted for the non-fiction category in the Wilderness Society’s 2023 Karajia and Environment Awards for Children’s Literature. In addition to the help he gets from biologists and scientists, Mollard travels across the country to ensure the accuracy of his drawings. APPLICATIONS for Frankston Council’s community grants program close next month. Grants of up to $7500 are on offer for local community groups and organisations. Bayside Community Emergency Relief received $4000 through a previous round of the grant program. YOUNG students from across Frankston did their bit for the environment by planting trees and plants last week. Schools and local community groups teamed up for National Tree Planting Day last Friday. At Wallace Reserve, Frankston Heights Primary School students helped plant around 600 seeds. Friends of Wallace Reserve secretary David Cross said the students “enjoyed their excursion through the reserve to the planting site.
