FRANKSTON Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating a suspicious fire in Frankston last month. The fire was at the rear of some shops on Horne Street near Beach Street on 23 September at 4.30am. Emergency services were notified of the fire by staff from a nearby bakery who smelt and observed a large amount of smoke. The fire caused minor damage to a loading dock before it was extinguished by fire fighters. No one was injured in the fire, which is being treated as suspicious. A VEHICLE stolen from Jeff Wignall Ford in Hastings on 9 October was used to ram raid multiple petrol stations. The first took place at 5am on Saturday, 13 October. The maroon Ford Everest was used to ram a United Petrol in Langwarrin. They occupants of the vehicle attempted to steal cigarettes from the station, but were unsuccessful. The car was then taken to a BP in Carrum Downs at 5.20am, and was driven through the front of the station. Cigarettes were stolen from the behind the counter. TWO Harley Davidson motorcycles, cars, cash, gun, ammunition, jewellery and drugs were seized by Frankston and other detectives during raids on houses in Seaford, Frankston South and Cranbourne last week. A Seaford man, Seaford woman and a Frankston South man were arrested prior to the raids which formed part of an ongoing investigation into drug trafficking in the southern suburbs. A Cranbourne West man was also arrested. The offenders were nabbed Wednesday afternoon by Southern Metropolitan Divisional Response Unit officers, Special Operations Group, Dog Squad, Echo Task Force, Australian Federal Police and Frankston police. AN out of control blaze has caused extensive damage to one home in Mentone and spread to two others. 35 firefighters attended the Flinders Street home, which caught fire at around 11am on Wednesday 10 October. The blaze was brought under control within 50 minutes, as smoke filled the skies above Mentone and Cheltenham. Nobody was injured in the fire. MORNINGTON Peninsula Hockey Club had five players represent Victoria at the Women’s Masters Championships in Bunbury, Western Australia on Thursday 27 September. Four of the women, Emma Brown, Kim Trezise, Julia Ashmore and Margaret Nettleship, returned home with silver medals from the national competition while Rebecca Gipp finished just shy of a bronze. Mornington Peninsula Hockey Club goalkeeper Julia Ashmore said “it was a great result from everyone”.
