A FRANKSTON man was charged with 33 counts including theft of, and from, cars, as well as theft and handling stolen goods when arrested in Chelsea last week. The 42-year-old allegedly committed the offences in the Frankston and Chelsea areas from 22 July-16 August. Detective Senior Constable James Keegan, of Frankston CIU, said the man was apprehended in a stolen vehicle while allegedly attempting to jump-start another vehicle, Thursday 16 August. SLEEPING on the job took on a whole new meaning last week when a man was found semi-conscious in the roof of a chemist’s shop hours after it had been burgled. Detective Shaun Rampal, of Frankston CIU, said the Frankston man, 29, may have fallen unconscious after consuming prescription drugs allegedly stolen from shelves during the early morning raid. A CAFE worker has been hailed as a hero after rescuing a schoolboy from drowning in Mordialloc Creek. Maarouf Matar ran with a workmate from Doyles Hotel to save 12-year-old Michael Martin from the depths of the creek after the boy accidentally fell in while riding his bike to school. POLICE returned for an encore performance at Frankston’s Peninsula Link on Thursday 16 August when Somerville Highway Patrol officers used automatic number plate recognition on passing vehicles at Peninsula Link. Three suspended drivers, two disqualified drivers, 10 unregistered vehicles, one drug driver and one vehicle with false number plates were caught in the police dragnet dubbed Operation Hollywood. Two cars were impounded and towed away for 30 days since the drivers had prior convictions for the same offence.
