POLICE are advising mainly elderly residents that they should be wary of mobile phone apps claiming to be “duress alarms” which charge them money to call 000 on their behalf. They say some “duress alarm” apps claim to link clients to a 24/7 call centre with a “live” connection to police and emergency services. However, no app has a direct – or “live” – connection to Victoria Police or emergency services, police say. Police have arrested four men after executing a search warrant at two neighbouring addresses in Carrum Downs this morning (18 July). The warrants were executed at two addresses on the corner of Shearwater Drive and Lyrebird Drive shortly before 8am. Three Holden SS Commodores and a Ford Courier utility, all believed to be stolen, were recovered during the warrants. A car frame, engines, number plates and other spare parts were also seized at the addresses, as well as what is allegedly VIN etching equipment.
